Course Overview

Locating subsurface supplies, such as electricity and gas, during excavation work is critical not just for the health and safety of workers on the job, but also to avoid costly delays in construction and civil engineering projects. The Cable Avoidance training course instructs delegates on how to detect and trace underground services as well as how to employ cable avoidance technologies safely and in accordance with industry standards .Delegates will also learn to provide instruction in the safe use of cable avoidance tools and equipment, including the use of CAT & Genny detection equipment.

Learning Objectives

Learners will be able to identify different types of underground apparatus
Learners will be able to identify and read service plans for gas, electricity, water, and telecommunications.
Learners will Gain a mastery of the Risk-Based Internal Audit Framework and how to apply it at their organization.
Learners will be able to identify and use a cable/pipe detector with caution.
Learners will be able to mark the ground and dig trials by hand.
Learners will be able to identify components of a CAT and Genny, and its functions of each part
Learners will be able to demonstrate your understanding of the appropriate PPE.

Identification of different types of underground apparatus
Cable avoidance tools and equipment
Components of a CAT & Genny and the functions of each component part
Correct procedures for obtaining the best results from the CAT & Genny
Types of plant/services that cannot be located by the CAT used without the Genny
Types of plant that cannot be located by the CAT and Genny when used together
Identifying hazards and the implications of potential risks
Colour coding of utility services
Utility service drawings
Location and avoidance of underground
Digging trials
